I have not devoted any time to the blog over the past two weeks. Let's see if I can catch up.

The long heat is over, but it has not rained very much. Even the gale of a couple of weeks ago — the one that caused that fatal bandstand collapse at the Indiana State Fair — brought little rain. But it was enough to get the grass growing and get me to mow my lawn (and Madre's) for the first time in weeks.

I visited my doctor last week. I then visited PA Labs in Muncie the next day for blood work. But regardless of the results, I will be taking two more kinds of drugs: A statin (to lower liver fat) and an ACE inhibitor (to lower blood pressure). I don't really need them, as I have gotten my weight, my cholesterol and my blood pressure within acceptable levels. It is my health insurance that insists on the drugs.

I was okay with these until Madre told me that the statins she took trashed her liver and the muscles of her back and legs. The statin perscribed to me (bacteria-derived pravastatin) was not among them, so I might luck out.

The public printing system is behaving itself so far today, the first day of the fall semester. The only problems come from the PDF cruft that sometimes lurks in the course-management system, slowing down printing and sometimes causing "error 79s" that freeze the printers entirely.
