Post-Blizzard 2011

The sleet storms are done. The threatened power outage never happened. The sun is shining. My workplace opened at eleven this morning.

But I could not make it to work, and had to call in to report this. Whether the roads were icy or treacherous I never found out, for I could not even reach the roads: My car was surrounded by a foot of sleet, and I could not get it out.

Around noon, I went out and dug around the car. It was still stuck. I dug a path from the car to the street across my yard. It was still stuck. I spread cat litter to help the tires grip the sleet better. It helped a little, but not enough. Finally I pour hot water around the tires to melt the sleet under and around them. That was enough to let me move forward and backward until I was able to reach the road.

After that, I had to park my car at Madre's and walk home. There was no possible way I can park my car where I usually park it, so I had to use the driveway off the east side of my house — the one I had planned to cover up with topsoil. It looks like it was a good thing I put that off.

I shovelled the snow and sleet out of a 7′ × 12′ section of my driveway. It was enough to park my car off the street and next to my house, while allowing me to drive onto the street.

After all that, I had time to spare to go to my doctor's appointment in Alexandria. However, the doctor's office cancelled the appointment this morning for obvious reasons. I will have to reschedule the appointment for the nth time.
