Powerbowl 2012

The Powerbowl should be starting as I am typing this.

I have been getting Powerbowl stuff splashing on my figurative shores, as my state's capital is hosting the event this year. It has been affecting most everything here, from the work of the state's legislature to the television programming of channels that are not broadcasting the game. (The latter included The Simpsons on the local Fox station being preempted by Powerbowl stuff.)

During the past week, people have been pouring into Indianapolis to watch the game at Lucas Oil Stadium and to try out the NFL Experience at the nearby convention center. My next-door neighbors were there one day, and speak well about the experience. Madre has told me that the streets of downtown Indianapolis, as viewed on TV, are so crowded that it takes ten minutes to go ten paces.

It is too bad that the Colts aren't one of the teams: But that is what happens when your quarterback had gradually become the whole team, and then he goes and hurts himself so badly that he is out the whole season. So we get to see two East Coast teams duke it out.

BTW, the Powerbowl has so affected the work of the state's legislature (it had to go into recess for a couple of weeks before the game due to the spike in hotel costs), that it almost obscured the becoming of Indiana into a truly Southern state with the passage of its anti-union bill into law. This might be what it takes to get a Democratic government elected this November — if the Democrats here ever get their act together.

One more thing: I am using the name Powerbowl instead of its True Name, because the NFL has been insanely cracking down on the mere mention of the True Name for fear that its rights would be somehow infringed.
