Adiaŭ Outpost Daria

Around Easter I visited the home page for Outpost Daria, the most important fan site for the MTV animated series Daria. The home page bore a sad message: Outpost Daria is closing on June 1, 2013. Lack of time (it had not been touched since Labor Day 2011), lack of money, and competition from blogs and wikis and social media as forced its Webmaster, Martin J. Pollard, to close shop at the end of May.

It is amazing that the site has been around as long as it has. It almost became extinct in 2007 (which helped spark a severe crisis among Daria fen called the Great Daria Fandom Implosion), but revived a year later, and lived to see Daria come out as a DVD series in 2010, a long-time dream of fans.

It will be a sad day when the site shuts down, but at least its contents is (and will remain) available as an archive file on Mediafire — all 187 megabytes of the site.
