Spring Vacation 2013

I have spend most of my spring vacation doing yard work and playing Minecraft. Oh, and watching Puella Magi Madoka Magika, all twelve episodes, in one go.

I was supposed to pick up my new eyeglasses on Monday, but I overslept and forgot. So I rescheduled for Thursday. The new glasses are metal and lighter, but their field is smaller, but I can get used to that.

I scheduled a visit from a local furnace shop to do maintenance on my furnace. It turns out, after all those years, that the furnace works fine. I was also told that ducts are not waterproof, and that the ducts are already rusted due to being the original ones from the previous furnace.

Friday was the third of May — Caitlin Clarke Day. I went to the Olive Garden in Muncie to celebrate, after which I went to Fry's.

Saturday was the town rummage sale, including the Book Sale at the annex (old library). I put in an afternoon at the checkout table, and got three old books (two hardcover copies of the Old Farmer's Almanac and a Sherlock Holmes paperback.

I spent Sunday evening mowing my lawn, which had gotten tall enough in only five days.

Notes

Puella Magi starts off as a typical mahô shôjo animé à la Sailor Moon. Then, starting with the third episode, it turns dark, and gets progressively darker. The mascot Cubey looks so cute, but turns out to be like an Elder God out of the Lovecraft tradition: Emotionless and utilitarian, not caring for the feelings of the girls it turns into Puella Magi as long as it gets the energy required to stave off the heat death of the universe.

It makes me wonder what would happen if Monica Ray's boyfriend had become a Puellus Magi. If he came to grief and became a warlock, I figure his warlock form would be a giant billboard with a gatefold with the caption, Playmate of the Month, June 2012. I leave who that would be as an exercise for the reader.

I had realized that, in reforming my e-mail accounts on Hostway, I had dropped the e-mail account for my blog. Or, maybe I had a reason for doing so then, but it looks foolish now. I had forgotten what I did until I was told after the Book Sale. This is fixed.

I also found that I have lost control of the andy.west.name domain. Personal Names, the company that hosted it, was bought out by a company called Dotster. I was able to access my account at first, but now that has been lost. I have sent a query to Dotster, asking what has happened. Personal Names was a good company; but it looks like Dotster is getting out of the .name domain business. The domain expires at the end of the month, and I have never really had any use for it. I guess I will let it lapse.
