The Surprise New Modem

When I got home from work, I saw a package on my doorstep. I had thought that it was the Ogami notebook having come early. But when I opened the package, I found phone line filters and, underneath those, a modem — or more accurately, a ADSL bridge — a brand-new ADSL bridge.

A call to Frontier, my phone company, got me Frontier's long-distance discount on my phone bill, but no idea why I got a new ADSL modem. I was told not to worry about it.

I set up my new modem, which also functions as a router and a wireless point. I have turned off the wireless: Wireless is legally problematic. I had to dig a bit to find a way to set the primary and secondary DNS to OpenDNS. Otherwise the modem/router is awesome.
