Fourth of July Weekend

DSL down

Internet access in my house has been down for more than a week. I got my DSL provider, Frontier, to open a problem ticket. I was also told by Frontier that Internet access has been down statewide since the series of violent electrical storms knocked down DSL service around the same time I lost service myself.

This is playing whack with my computers because it relies on the Internet for updates to my operating systems and antivirus software. I fear it will be two weeks before I get it back. I will need to go to Ball State to use their Internet in order update my blog.

Evening of the third

I waited at the house of my sister the ex-teacher for the sky to get dark enough for fireworks to begin. It got dark enough, but nothing happened. Losing patience, I walked home. I was half-way there when the fireworks started. Where I stood was good enough to view the fireworks, where were pretty good this year. After they ended, I walked the rest of the way home before the outgoing traffic came.

Day of the fourth

On the fourth itself I spent the day on yard work: Mowing my lawn, Madre’s lawn, and part of the lawn of my sister the ex-teacher. I also did some weed-whacking with Madre’s battery-powered weed-whacker (mine is out of commission until I get a new reel). I had lunch with Madre at noon.

The weekend

I mopped the kitchen, bathroom and utility room floors. This was long overdue, to tell the truth. Yet, I don’t know whether it was the lawn work, or the Pine-Sol, or the cat litter I was changing, that has given me a chest cold at the end of the weekend.

I bought an extra meat patty and fried it for Sunday lunch. It has been awhile since I fried any meat, and the house smells almost normal.

Day of the seventh

The chest cold got worse last night. I have had to take cold medicine this morning to be able to breath today.

My dentist is back from vacation, so I set up an appointment to have him look at my broken tooth.

DSL is back in service. This has been confirmed by a nice fellow from Frontier, who checked out the wiring both in my house and out. I have also been told that the DSL will be upgraded in the next couple of months. With this I can catch up on upgrades to all my software on both the Mac and the PC.
