Summer Vacation 2c

no dsl

The last days of my vacation have ended with me mowing my lawn, which has gotten so little rain lately. The last storm that past through on Friday night may have knocked out my DSL. Frontier customer service claims that they had restarted their modems on their end. It does not matter why to me, though, because it means I have no internet access — again!

crown lost and regained

Then, during my Saturday evening meal, the temporary crown came off my molar. I managed to put it back on with some DenTemp. It looks like I will be eating soup and other soft food for the next two weeks.

ipod touch

I did not know that my internet was out when I reset my iPod Touch. I had to go to Madre's and use her wireless internet access in order to finish resetting the device.

I found that I can access my local network on my iPod, provided that I give the full name of my network. I added my latest blood sugar stats to the databse I use to store them. The text, however, is very small. I will have to rewrite the code to present bigger fonts on an iPod.

no meth!

While I was there I set up Twitter and checked the tweet feed. I followed a picture of Tycho Brahe and son on Mary Cagle's Twitter feed to Penny Arcade, where I learned that Tycho's son has been hallucinating. Things like that do happen to a kid. What does not happen is being prescribed meth for those voices. Meth! Meth, the scourge of my state, because of which it is getting more and more difficult to buy pseudoephedrine for my colds and hay fever. Meth, which has no medicinal value at all. Who the hell do those cod docs think they are, prescribing redneck dope to a kid? No wonder Tycho’s kid was getting worse.

the talk

BTW, I was wrong about the next Talk would be by myself (duh), or even by Monica Ray (although that may be coming). The next ones were by Erica Moen and Amy Falcone. How … appropriate.

studio ghibli is not going away

Evidently rumors of Studio Ghibli closing for good are false. In light of Miyazaki’s retirement, the studio appears to be about to undergo a long-overdue purge. Time tends to make successful organizations bloat, and Studio Ghibli has been very successful, but not so much in the recent past. It cannot rely on Miyazaki, now that he is gone, to propel it, so a purge is unavoidable.
