Special Aggressors

There are those outstanding citizens of Rapture who, in search for some advantage in life, spliced themselves once too often. Some are now outstanding monsters; others manage to retain some of their wits.

he'd be at home in beverly hills

Dr. Steinman

Dr. J.S. Steinman is a cosmetic surgeon lured to Rapture by the promise of both Adam and of freedom from restraint. However, as his use of Adam took its toll, he became obsessed with cosmetic artistry, imaging himself as the surgical Picasso. You can guess where this is going: Cubist surgery, anyone? This became more pronounced as he began imagining visits from Aphrodite, who urged Steinman to rid himself of all ideas of symmetry. The results are plain for you to see.

You first encounter him in the foyer of his surgery, pondering why we have to have two arms, two legs, two eyes, … as he performs surgery on a woman's headshot. He flees when he sees you, blasting the entrance to the surgery shut with a bomb and sending his associate to deal with you. Once you remove the obstruction (with the associate's unwitting help), he next sics a security bot on you. Hopefully you will have the good sense to hack it (and the other security devices in Steinman's area) to aid you.

In the end you find Steinman pounding on a victim in frustration, crying out to his goddess why he keeps failing in his attempts to make his victims beautiful. The fun begins when he notices you: "He is ugly. Ugly! UGLY!! UUUUGLYYYY!!! Look at you! HIDEOUS!!!", he screams as he sprays machine-gun fire at you. Steinman proves to be a tough bird to kill, which is why the hacked security bot is a must. Oh, and make sure all the first aid stations in his area are rigged.

Ducky is sound of mind next to them

Peach Wilkins

Peach runs Fontaine Fisheries, which Ryan gave to him after his former boss was killed. Adam has deformed him enough to force him to wear a welding mask. Yeah, Peach is paranoid, but it is not just because of Adam: Peach has every reason to fear his ex-boss' return.

Peach gives you a grenade launcher, and has you do his bidding in finding a research camera and taking pictures of three spider splicers. The research comes in handy in despatching the Rose Spider (see below).

When you return with the snaps, he forces you to give up your weapons. Then you discover him as a nitro splicer as he and his gang ambush you because Peachy thinks you are working for Fontaine. (In a way, you are, but how could he know that?)

The Rose Spider

An especially creepy Rosebud-model spider splicer who killed Atlas' henchman at the start of the game and stalks you through the Nepture's Bounty level, sprinkling rose petals, making regretful prose of her lost youth:

But the days go by like wind.
Who can blame a lady for craving variety?
And one day the gentlemen stopped calling.

You can also hear her sing her own broken version of If I Didn't Care by the Inkspots.

She is the reason Peach is eager to have you research the spider splicers: He dares not leave the Fisheries while she is around.

dionysus is grand master of their lodge

The Saturnine

A band of Houdini splicers in the Arcadia quarter. They imagine themselves worshippers of nature, drinking plasmids as if sacraments and posting straw effigies of some big-bosomed woman all over the place. To the botanist of Arcadia, Julie Langford, the Saturnine are thieving frat boys drinking blood, posting effigies of her all over the place, and forcing her to lock herself inside her labs.

these are special too

Charlie and Brenda

You find this couple arguing about Adam on the lower level of the Kashmir Restaurant, where Brenda has locked herself in the kitchen while Charlie bangs at the door. You have to stop this argument permanently if you want to explore that area.

Steinman's Associate

This nameless whacko hides on a balcony of the surgery foyer, throwing bombs at you and at other people. He forces you to seek the Telekinesis plasmid to grab his bombs, so that you can clear away first the entrance to the surgery and then him.

Fort Frolic

Fort Frolic is a complicated section right down to its special aggressors, who get their own page.

and finally let us not forget our dear friend …

Frank Fontaine

Fontaine was a normal human being who never touched a drop of Adam (to him it's not good to mix business with pleasure) until he realized you were not giving up chasing after him. Then he went on the Adam — whole hog! Your fight against the resulting monster is the final level of the game.
