Bioshock > Provision > Consumables
There are consumable items scattered everywhere in the city. Some of them are weapons and ammunition, which are covered separately. Some are Accu-Vox tape recordings, which are also covered separately. This page covers Adam and Eve (defined elsewhere), money and health.

The two indicators of your survival are health and Eve. Health keeps your body alive. Eve keeps your active plasmids powered up.
The graphic on the upper left corner of the screen shows you how much health and Eve you have. You start with the capacity for up to nine units of each. These are disconnected at first; later you can get the Eve Link gene tonic, which boosts Eve when you gain health. You can also upgrade your health and Eve at a Gatherers Garden, which makes each kit or hypo last longer, although the maximum numbers of both on the graph are unchanged at nine.
There are consumable items out there that can effect your health and Eve. They are scattered everywhere, lying untouched because the aggressors cannot use them. They can also be bought from some vendors.
First Aid Kits are scattered all over Rapture. One or two also appear after you destroy a first aid station. These hike your health up one unit. They don't work if you already have nine units.
Blue and white boxes of gauze bandages give you some health.
Eve hypos are also here and there throughout the city. These hike your Eve up one unit until you reach nine.
Eating these Twinkie™-type cakes gives you some health.
Eating potato chips gives you some health.
Drinking coffee found in Thermos bottles, scrounged from aggressors, or even bought from a few vendors gives you some Eve.
Evidently coffee was sold in pop bottles with a bunny-rabbit logo. You can find the sole remaining bottle in a waste basket in the Heat Loss section of Hephæstus.
Cheeky™, the Rapture version of an energy bar, gives you both health and Eve.
The role of alcohol in Rapture is explained on this page.
Cigarettes and other forms of tobacco also have a role to play.
Rapture has its own currency, the Rapture Dollar (R$).
Adam, the basis for plasmids and tonics, is a topic in itself, and so is how the Adam is extracted and used.
