Tobacco

Tobacco, or what passes for tobacco in Rapture, has a lesser role in Bioshock than alcohol. Rapture was founded long before the ill effects of tobacco were known, so there was no stigma attached to smoking. In the game smoking boosts your Eve but reduces your health. There is no tonic that changes this.

There are two brands of cigarettes: common Nico Time and ritzy Oxford Club. Both have poster ads you frequently see on the walls. I say what passes for tobacco because tobacco is not grown in Rapture, so substitutes such as processed ground shells and fish eggs are used.

There are cigars, mostly in the Fort Frolic shops, but you can't smoke those. Almost all of them are smuggled from Cuba, for which the owners of the shops were killed (as Bill McDonagh noted in a tape in one of the shops).

There are two pipes with tobacco still in them. Both are located in Fort Frolic. One is in the Sir Prize casino on the lower level. The other belonged to Ryan himself, which he left in Jasmine Jolene's room. You can smoke both, with the same effects as cigarettes.
