Aggressors Models

Introduction

the nine models

The nine models of aggressor are identified by their appearance and their rantings. Those rants make you wonder what on Earth Ryan was thinking when he selected them as exemplifying the best of humanity. These citizens had something wrong with them — each model with a different kind of wrong — when they had their wits about them.

which model is which type

All models can be thugs, leadheads, nitros and Houdinis. But only certain aggressor models can be spiders, indicated by a †.

Splicers with the ‡ are based on photographs from the case studies of the Project Facade Web site.

The smaller text in the rants is barely audible over the background noise.

Baby Jane

tendencies

Baby Jane is a young brunette woman with a pageboy haircut, a whiny nasal voice, and a torn party dress. She came to Rapture seeking fame on the stage, and despite her minimal talent sought it with a most amoral ruthlessness. Now she has bitter regrets for her lost beauty, although traces of it are visible through the scars and the Adam-induced glow in her eyes.

You find her first in Medical, where she hoped in vain for Steinman to make her pretty again after she over-spliced herself. She is a common model elsewhere, especially in Fort Frolic, where you can hear her suck up — also in vain — to Sander Cohen.

Rapture has not been good to her, has it?

sample rants

Mr. Ryan is going to notice me, and I'm going to be a star. It's not too late, not too late!
Oh, Mr. Cohen! I'd be wonderful in the part.
She was up for the part as well. But then they found her in a salt pond. Teeheeheehee.
Hey fella, you told me you were going to take care of me. Were you lying?

Breadwinner

tendencies

Dressed like a Chicago mobster with the archetypal double-breasted pinstripe suit and fedora, this fellow came to Rapture to start a business and get rich. All he got a wealth of insanity for his effort; and yet you can still hear him whistling his happy-go-lucky tune. He's so full of hopes and dreams! He appears in the luxury-related locales of Arcadia and Olympus Heights.

sample rants

I came here with a dream! And that dream's going to happen!!
I'm not afraid of failure, because I ain't … going … to … FAIL!
I'm a WINNER! Ryan's got his eye on ME!

Ducky

tendencies

This fellow is a policeman, named after the raincoat and peaked cap that was the police uniform in some American cities during the first half of the 20th century. Ducky still walks his beat, paranoiacally muttering about the people who (he claims) are reading his mind and watching his every move. He appears first in Neptune's Bounty, where security head Sullivan set up shop to hunt for smugglers.

sample rants

Somebody's got to keep order around this place. If not … it'll go to the parasites! They want what we've got, and we got to defend what's OURS!
Ryan. Atlas. Fontaine. They're all the same: All with their thumb on me!
I wanna think: But everytime I do, they hear it. They watch me. All the time! EVERY GODDAMN BREATH!!
You can't take it from me, Ryan! I earned it! I EARNED IT!!

Grossman

tendencies

The good doctor — umm, maybe good is a stretch since, from his rants, he wasn't really competent when he was sane — partook of too much Adam, thereby earning his Doctor of Madness license. Now he works at Medical, among other places, complaining about filth and germs and disease and germs and slimy babies. And he will insist on seeing what is inside you.

sample rants

Don't worry! I'm a professional. I took an oath to do no harm … and I mostly meant it.
I hate the babies the most. They come out all covered in death!
Bacteria are microscopic. Yesss! That's what they want you to think!
Typical behavior for someone in your condition!

Ladysmith

tendencies

When Rapture had an upper class, she was one of the top, and had the amazing arrogance to prove it. Now she walks around with a permanent scrowl on her marred face, grumbling about parasites, the quality of the tenderloin, and that you don't fit in. You get your first pistol from one of her.

sample rants

Parasite! Welfare hound! I've got NOTHING for you!!
Tell the minister he'll just have to wait. It's my daughter's wedding, not his!
Go on! Take your whore and go! But I'm keeping everything, EVERYTHING!!
We'll take a picnic lunch, and we'll make a day of it. I just adore the summertime. (Ah, happier days!)

Pigskin

tendencies

He is a football player in an old-style uniform with an Adam problem that makes steroid use tame. Of all the splicers, the pig-dude seems to be the most self-aware of what has happened (and is still happening) to him. Not only is he crazy, he is angry: at Ryan, at his parents, at you (You think this is fun to watch!?). You kind of feel sorry for the guy even as you dispatch him to the football arena in the sky. You run into him at the Farmers Market, calling out for his folks to take him home.

sample rants

Look at me, Mr. Ryan! I've got nothing left to give!!
I just want to go to sleep. I just want to go to sleep.
They make me in everything I see. They make me in everything I see! THEY MAKE ME IN EVERYTHING I SEE!!

Rosebud

tendencies

A female prole in a factory coverall and with an Eastern European accent, Rosebud searches frantically for her daughter, who was taken from her to be made into a Little Sister — and whose loss pushed the poor woman over the edge. You can hear her singing a broken version of Amazing Grace. Rosebud gets her name from the hugh roseate growth that consumed the right side of her face, the biggest of many tumors covering her body.

As the Rose Splicer, Rosebud is the first aggressor you meet with: She murders Atlas' henchman Johnny, and continues to hunt you through Port Neptune.

sample rants

Are you the one who took my baby? You better not be!
Sweetness? Is that you? Mommy wants to hold you.
My youth! My rose! I want it back! I WANT IT BACK!! (the Rose Spider's attack cry)

Toasty

tendencies

Baby Jane's male counterpart, Toasty thinks himself a good-looking stud. And he may well have been at first. But no matter how well-dressed or well-endowed he is, nobody is going to care after seeing a melted messed-up mug — and it drives him nuts. It does not help being rough with the babes (I'll show her what happens to those stuck-up types!) and refusing to admit to it (I found her that way!)

Toasties are the first several victims you dispatch in the game.

sample rants

That's want the book said: Dress nice, smile and be yourself. And that's what I did.
I sent her flowers every day. And she always sent them back! You call that GRATITUDE?
Stop … laughing … at … ME! Steinman'll fix me! Everything'll work out! Just you wait!!

Waders

tendencies

This male prole, named after his rubber trousers and with his face repaired with a mask of skin, found his Roman Catholicism only after losing his mind. Now he roams the halls, starting with Neptune's Bounty, hunting for heretics (that means you), singing Jesus Loves Me, and lamenting that he traded his Lord for Mammon.

sample rants

Father, why have you forsaken me?
His Light shineth even down here in the murk!
We thought we could hide from the Light down here. We were wrong!
You ungrateful bastard! He offered you salvation, and you s◊◊◊ on Him!
That's right! Run from the Light! Run to your Devil! I'm sure he will help you.
